Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson didn’t mince words about the team’s start to the 2025 season. It’s been categorically underwhelming.
Wilson had a stellar and unprecedented season in 2024 that earned her WNBA MVP honors. However, there was no amount of heroics from Wilson that could save Las Vegas’ three-peat title hopes. They were bounced from the playoffs by the New York Liberty, who trolled them with a pair of Timberland boots on their way out of Michaelob Arena.

As fate would have it, Las Vegas met New York again to start the 2025 season, but Vegas was still outmatched. They had no answer for whatever the Liberty threw at them, including newcomer Natasha Cloud. The Aces righted the ship with a bounce-back win against the Connecticut Sun, but only narrowly beat the Washington Mystics before letting the Seattle Storm unravel them for a 20-point blowout victory.
“It’s on us to look better, to play better,” Wilson told the media earlier this week when reflecting on the Aces’ slow start. “That’s pretty much all I’ve seen in the past two games is just we just played like [expletive.] We did. We looked bad.”
Transparently, Wilson’s right. The Aces can’t afford to lose games in the manner they are because, quite frankly, there’s far too much talent on the roster and the expectations are rightfully high, so that the franchise can bring home another title.

Still, Las Vegas has several games over the next few weeks, including another rematch with Seattle, that it can use to help elevate itself into the upper echelon of the league. It’s fairly reasonable to think the Aces could string together several wins that would ease some of the unrest about how the team looks.
No need to hit the panic button ― yet.
