INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – An intense round of storms blew through the metro Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind plenty of damage. One of the worst-hit areas was a small neighborhood in Independence near Truman Road and 291 Highway.
Trees, branches, and limbs littered the streets, and the hum of chainsaws filled the air on Wednesday morning as families began the arduous clean-up efforts.
Lynn McMillan wasn’t home when the rain picked up, but quickly found out it wasn’t a typical storm. A large tree branch just missed her home, and luckily her car was not in the driveway or it would have most certainly been crushed.
“There was no wind to start with, then all of a sudden a wall of water just poured down, and wiped out all the trees,” McMillan said.
McMillan has lived in the neighborhood for years and said there have been storms that pass through, but never anything like this. She said cleanup could take a while, but she’s just glad no one was hurt.
“I feel blessed because it could have been a whole lot worse,” McMillan said. “We’ll take care of it and get it cleaned up, but everybody’s been helpful, taking care of each other, and that’s community. That’s what it’s all about.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, no injuries have been reported.
