Half of the Detroit Lions Organized Team Activity practices are in the books. Coach Dan Campbell made the difficult decision to cut their spring program short after being named to the Hall of Fame Game at the end of July—meaning their training camp will start a bit early this year.
On Friday, I got the opportunity to watch Detroit’s third of six OTA practices and chat with Dan Campbell, along with a handful of players. After a few hours after practice, I sat down and recorded the biggest storylines of the day and my takes on them. (You can also read my observations from Friday’s practice here).
On this solo episode of the podcast, I discuss the decision to cut OTAs short and its impact on Detroit’s new coaching staff. I briefly discuss the notable absences from practices and the contract situations surrounding Alex Anzalone and Frank Ragnow. I break down the Jameson Williams hype from not only coaches but a few players, as well.
Then I get into the nitty-gritty of practice, the players who stood out the most, the energy I felt on the field, and everything in between. I also take note of some interesting personnel choices regarding where each player was deployed and with which units.
